Pope Francis and conversion

Very recently, Pope Francis participated in a ceremony in which he created 800 new saints. The 800 new Saints were the victims of Ottoman Soldiers who beheaded the villagers when they refused to convert to Islam. All of the victims have been canonized as the Otranto Martyrs.

This also marks the largest canonization by any Pope so far. Pope Francis declares that the Otranto Martyrs were a source of inspiration for “so many Christians, who, right in these times and in so many parts of the world, still suffer violence”.
