There are around 8-12 million catholics in China, a decently large amount. Of these catholics, however, they're separated between two entire factions, one which is controlled by the Chinese state and installs its own bishops and another underground faction that rejects state control and remains loyal to Vatican rule.
However this Wednesday, before his usual audience, Pope Francis urged Catholics in China to stay loyal to the Vatican.

Pope Francis and religious acceptance
If one takes a look at history, there are a lot of instances of conflicts due to religion. Some may want to convert these people, others may want their nation to be of only their religion, others may even just not like another religion but cases in which people do not tolerate each other's religion and fight due to this are not that uncommon. What does this have to do with Pope Francis? Easy.
During his homilies at Wednesday Mass, Pope Francis emphasized that doing good was a principle that united all of humanity. According to a report from the Vatican Radio,
“They complain,” the Pope said in his homily, because they say, “If he is not one of us, he cannot do good. If he is not of our party, he cannot do good.” And Jesus corrects them: “Do not hinder him, he says, let him do good.” The disciples, Pope Francis explains, “were a little intolerant,” closed off by the idea of possessing the truth, convinced that “those who do not have the truth, cannot do good.” “This was wrong . . . Jesus broadens the horizon.” Pope Francis said, “The root of this possibility of doing good – that we all have – is in creation”
He stressed that whether or not one was catholic did not matter if one does good. Even atheists should be seen as good people if they do good. Francis' reaching out to Atheists and people of other religions is something that is not often seen and,by my opinion, should be widely encouraged.

Pope Francis and exorcism
When you're a very influential person such as Pope Francis, everything you do may be looked at in the wrong way by the media. For example, on Sunday, Pope Francis approached some children with disabilities that had attended his mass. The pope had placed both of his hands on the young man's head which several took as an act of exorcism.
On one hand, exorcists that have seen such images have been said to declare it as an obvious act of exorcism. This speculation is supported with Pope Francis' obsession with the devil, a frequent subject at his homilies. It wouldn't seem to queer to suppose that the Pope was trying to rid the devil's influence from the young man.
Meanwhile, the Vatican, catching up on such rumors, quickly denounced that the action was in fact not an exorcism and that Pope Francis had no intentions of such, simply wanting to pray for a suffering person.
So what do you think? Is it a simple blessing or an actual exorcism?

Pope Francis and the Pope Francis Tours
Welcome to the Pope Francis Guided tours! Here, we shall visit the streets and neighborhood that Pope Francis grew up in, the church and cathedral where he prayed and became a man, as well that newspaper stand that he would sometimes go to. If you're lucky, maybe you'll even meet a guy who knows the old priest.
As Pope Francis settles into his Papal seat, his home of Bueno Aires is already underway to take advantage of their holy representative's background. A simple tour bus named the "Papal Circuit" now takes tourists on an adventure through the many places that formed the bespectacled Pope.
"I loved the tour ... It's to live the history of Bergoglio, of his family, and I also visited his neighborhood, which I had never seen," Alicia Perez says, one of the few non-journalists that have been on the bus so far.

Pope Francis and the Economy
Just a while ago, Pope Francis, upon greeting the first group of new ambassadors to the Holy See, immediately made a speech upon the global economy, or rather blasted the cult of money.
He argued that many countries should change their economic system due to the tyranny that came from it. Money was meant to serve not to rule, something that poor people everywhere have to deal with daily. It is the first of such speaches and may not be the last.

A nice short post since Pope Francis hasn't been doing anything today
Of the many things scheduled in the Vatican Calendar, one important event is the Evangelium Vitae that the Vatican is hosting on June 15-16 in celebration for "The Year of Faith".
What I find interesting is that the Vatican's pro life message does not restrict itself to abortion issues but to all those in need, from the elderly to the sickly. They believe that human beings in ever stage of life, from their womb to their retirement home, deserve help and charity.

Pope Francis and conversion
Very recently, Pope Francis participated in a ceremony in which he created 800 new saints. The 800 new Saints were the victims of Ottoman Soldiers who beheaded the villagers when they refused to convert to Islam. All of the victims have been canonized as the Otranto Martyrs.
This also marks the largest canonization by any Pope so far. Pope Francis declares that the Otranto Martyrs were a source of inspiration for “so many Christians, who, right in these times and in so many parts of the world, still suffer violence”.

Two Popes
After a bit of time of waiting, finally the time in which both Popes, Pope Francis and former Pope Benedict will finally be in Vatican together again.
After a brief period in a Vatican Summer house for the sake of letting his successor settle in, Pope Benedict returned, flying in by helicopter to live only a few hundred meters away from Francis. Francis was reported to meet his predecessor with "fraternal cordiality".
While some critics believe that Benedict's arrival might affect Francis' current route of reform, I personally believe that that would not happen. Instead, I believe that Benedict's presence might liven up the state of the church which has a very bumpy future ahead. As of now, he will dedicate his time to praying at the Church.

Pope Francis and Slave Labour
Recently, there was a widely reported accident in Bangladesh in which a factory collapsed and killed over 400 people. Obviously, this incident would reach the ears of Pope Francis, especially the part in which the workers were paid 38 euros a month.
"A headline that really struck me on the day of the tragedy in Bangladesh was 'Living on 38 euros a month'. That is what the people who died were being paid. This is called slave labour," The pope declared at a private mass.
In said private mass, he stressed not only to pray for the casualties but also about how the victims were under-paid. "Not paying fairly, not giving a job because you are only looking at balance sheets, only looking at how to make a profit. That goes against God!" he was quoted as saying.

Future of the Catholic Church
There are many things that you can compliment Pope Francis for. However if I were to describe Pope Francis in one word, it would definitely have to be: Pope-ular...
........................................................................................................
Okay, bad jokes aside, there is no doubt that Pope Francis is getting a lot of attention and, in many ways, appeals to both Catholics and non-catholics aside. No matter what critics say, he is defended by people all around.
However, as time slips away from his inaugural mass and he settles into his throne of Papacy, he'll realize just how uncomfortable the cushions are. In front of the Pope, there is a rocky road and a trying time for the Catholic Church where modern times are taking their toll and faith is being broken over the infamous child sex abuse scandal.
While he has spent much time on building up his image of a gentle and sympathetic church, Francis has avoided putting his hands deep into the mud and solving these problems. I don't mean to criticise him but there are 1.2 Billion people out there waiting for his guiding hand. Whether or not Francis is up to this task is a very good question.

Late on wednesday, a explosion at an Texas Fertilizer Plant rippled throughout the surroundings, hurting over 100 people. Buildings were levelled and destroyed in the process. An undertemined number of people died.
In response to this, Pope Francis asks for many to join him in praying for the lost souls of Texas and their families.

Pope Francis Support U.S. Nun Crackdown
When Pope Francis came into Papacy with his efforts for a more merciful and tender church, some of the nuns in the U.S. certainly had high hopes that the Pope wouldn't follow the path of his predecessor. Unfortunately, their hopes were dimmed as Pope Francis supports the Holy See's crackdown on the largest group of U.S. Nuns.
The Leadership Conference of Women Religious were determined by the Vatican that it took position against Catholic teachings on subjects such as priesthood and homeosexuality.
Following Francis' election, sisters hopes that the Jesuit Pope would take a gentler approach then his predecessor. Yet at the same time, Reverend James Martin advises to not read to much into the Vatican's statement. Rather, he says that it would be rather unnatural for Francis to undo a process that has been in work for years.
Hopefully, Pope Francis means no harm in following his predecessor's path and is simply following tradition.

Pope Francis and the UN
On the morning of tuesday, April 9th, Pope Francis had a meeting with Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon. It is tradition for the Pope and the UN to meet up in order to discuss plans for the common good of humanity and the defense of human rights.
The two focused on issues of mutual interest, in particular on situations of conflict and serious humanitarian emergencies. These included the matters of the Korean Peninsula and the African continent.
It's a nice sight to see these two powerful leaders getting along and discussing matter regarding the common good of humanity.

Pope Francis and Feminism
It has been a bit of time since Pope Francis has been elected and he seems to be liked overall by not only the church but also the rest of the media. He has this sort of inclusive way of speaking that is easy to understand and never excluding.
However, of the thing that he hasn't said, he has barely spoken up about matters that are pressed amongst many minds. There has been no mention of birth control, same-sex marriage and related gender issues, no in-depth mention of feminism, nor the death.
Hopefully, for the billion or so followers of the Catholic Chruch, Pope Francis will in fact speak up about these matters that many are looking for advice for soon.

Sufi Shrine blown up by Unknown Assailants
Just last thursday, a Sufi Shrine was bombed by unkown culprits in Libya, the first attack since several from the last year, according to the local residents. Ultra-conservative Islamists have targeted Sufi grounds before due to the conservatives deeming the Sufis to be idolatrous.
“It was a bomb attack. The doors and windows were blown out, the inside is charred,” said a local anonymous witness. He also said that one person had been arrested in connection with the attack and was now under investigation.

Religious Trama Syndrome
To any gamer out there, hearing the acronym: RTS, they'll think of your basic Real Time Strategy game. However, the symptoms known as Religious Trauma Syndrome are far more serious... for most people; some gamers might find RTS games more serious but that's not the point here.
"Religious trauma syndrome (RTS) is a set of symptoms and characteristics that tend to go together and which are related to harmful experiences with religion" Dr. Marlene Winnel describes. Two years ago, Winnel had given the label for this Syndrome and has started speaking and writing about it.
RTS is known for causing several different type of mental traumatic syndromes to the victim. "One of the symptom clusters is around fear and anxiety" Winnel explains.
RTS just goes to show that some religions are truly harmful and can cause trauma for many years to come. So the question is, if Religion can be this harmful, why do so many people preach of its benefits?

Will gay rights infringe on Religion?
It's only natural that out of all this talk about legally allowing LGBT relationships, there would be a concern about religion somewhere. Well, of course there was. Finding material for my blog, I stumbled upon a nice little article from CNN.
The article talks about how some Christians may feel like their religious liberty is being infringed. Personally, I think it doesn't actually matter because I think that whether or not the Bible forbids homosexuality, its all fine for the Christians as long as they themselves aren't participating in the LGBT.

Edinbourgh Airport and Religion
Recently, the Edinbourgh Airport ask passengers going through security, what religion they are. While this seems and is a quite obtrusive question for passengers, the Airport claims that they are only doing so in order to prove that certain groups of people are not always being singled out for security checks.
Regardless, it still seems quite alarming to suddenly be asked what your religion is as you go through security. Especially in this day in age in which people may think different and believe that you're asking the question for different purposes.

Moving between sides of the LGBT arguement
It's been a while since I've used a post to cover the LGBT arguement. I was also recently given the chance. Recently, Republican Ohio Sen. Rob Portman who was known for being against LGBT relationships is now supporting the other side. Why? His homosexual 21-year old son. After this revelation, Portman took the time to think about it and has decided that no matter ones sexual preference, they deserve the benefits that all citizens of the U.S. deserve.
If its possible for someone who was strongly against LGBT such as Portman to change, it is for many people. The best way for this is to know a person with an LGBT sexual preference. Once you get to know someone like that, a person may warm up and discover that these people, despite their sexual preference, aren't that bad.

The temple of the Jedi
Star wars. Just listening to these two words can make a lot of people jumping up and down excitingly. My first time being introduced to the world of Star Wars was as a 7 year old being taken with my cousins to the movies to watch the third episode.
What does this have to do with religion? Quite easy: Meet the Temple of the Jedi, a non-profitable charitable organisization that has gained the ability to do weddings all over the States. Watch a video about this here.
So what do you think? Is Star Wars a religion?

Visit to the Pope's Inaugural Mass
Just a nice quick post with some semi-interesting news.
Since 1054, not a single Greek Orthodox Patriarch has attended a single Pope Inaugural Mass. Why? I have no idea. Why is Fener Greek-Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I set to attend Pope Francis’ inaugural Mass in Rome on March 19? I also have no idea.
As you've probably figured out, Fener Freek-Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I, along with several other religious leaders, are set to attend the new Pope's inaugural mass. This could symbolise the start of an improving relationship between the Christians and Orthodox. Otherwise, this amount of news is about as important as one prime minister visiting another prime minister after the later prime minister had just been elected.

Book of Mormon
A few weeks ago, a certain musical hit the nearby St. Louis community where I resided and was a fantastic lure to get kids off their butts on Saturday and do something. I myself didn't see it but from the feedback that I got from the people that did... it was good. It was described as extremely funny and well acted, opposed to my standard vision of a religious based theatrics. Now, of course, the play in question is the Book of Mormon.
Religious musicals aren't something that you'd immediately just want to see yet, there have been several cases of these musicals becoming great hits. From the 1945 Carousal to the 1967 Hair, these musicals can dabble a little or a lot in the field of religion and still rake in thousands of fans.
Perhaps it just has to do with the music? Maybe the fans just love the great numbers and don't even care if it's religious... or , the other way around, perhaps people watch them because of the religious views and don't care if it generally sucks.
Either way, I'm now wishing I had gone to see the Book of Mormon.

New Pope... nuf said.
The title says it all. After much waiting, white smoke has appeared from the chimney and a new Pope has been chosen. After appearing on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, the new Pope gave his first adress as Pope, the traditional Urbi et Orbi. Prayers were made for the Catholic Church and for ex-Pope Benedict XVI.
The new pope rises in a revolutionary time for the Church, as secularism declines in the west yet grows in other parts of the world. There are doubts about the toughness of the New Pope in the current time of turbulence within the Catholic Church and whether he'll be able to properly lead the 1.2 billion Catholics.
Oh wait, you want to know who the new Pope is? Well of course, its Pope Francis, previously known as Cardinal Jourge Mario Bergoglio of Beuno Aires.

A Fall in Ameica's Affliated Religions?
According to research from October 2012, 1 in 5 American Adults claim to have no religious affliations. Yet in the 30's, only about 5% of Americans claimed to have no religious affliations. Why the big change, I have no idea.
However, examining research done on this matter, there are several patterns that can be found, which may lead to an answer. First of all, the research found that men were more likely to claim no religious affliation compared to women. As well, younger people under 30 are more likely to not belong to a religion compared to elderly seniors that are over 65. Also, Mexican Americans and African Americans were more likely to be pat of a religious structure than whites. Most importantly, there were some political patterns that stood out the most. Far more Liberals are "no religions" compared to the conservatives.
What have we learned? Well, first of all, if you're a male African American Liberal under the age of 30, you're probably not belonging to any religion. Second, there may be a reason why these patterns have appeared in the research, and these reasons may also unlock the reason of why structured religion is falling in the U.S. But that's for another study.

However, examining research done on this matter, there are several patterns that can be found, which may lead to an answer. First of all, the research found that men were more likely to claim no religious affliation compared to women. As well, younger people under 30 are more likely to not belong to a religion compared to elderly seniors that are over 65. Religion and Wealth
If one looks closely at the numerous countries around the world, one may notice a pattern. The least prosperous countries are also the most religious and vice versa. Could there possibly be a relation between a country's wealth and its religiosity?
First of all, the more vulnerable a citizen, the more they might want to rely on supernatural beings. As well, the wealthier a country, the higher the education. It's possible that a child that learns of science and other secular topic may be less drawn towards religion compared to others.
While this is a good pattern, there is also a few exceptions. America is one. According to statistics that I do not have any proof that they exist, 80.8 percent of Americans believe in god. And I'm sure everyone knows how well the U.S. does economically.

Tony Abbott, another man that I don't know about
It has become a pattern now that I will end up blogging about things or people that I don't know about and then having to research them. Another such person is Tony Abbott, who is apparently the leader of opposition for the Australian House of Representatives. Just recently, Abbott declared that his religious views would not touch his politcal decisions.
A while ago, he had made a few statements on abortion and homosexual but now is trying to take them back, or at least correct what he meant. He states that his words on abortion were poorly stated and that after meeting with some gays, his opinion on them has changed.
In my opinion, a good prime minister really shouldn't let his religious views cloud what is needed for the country. Hopefully, Abbott will keep to this promise if he does become prime minister. Other wise, I'd feel sorry for the Australians.

Divorce and Religion
According to a recent study at Baylor University, children with two actively religious parents that eventually divorce are more likely to switch religions or deny organized religion entirely as they become adults.
The research showed that adults who lived with one religious parent are atleast twice as likely to shy away from the parent's religion or organized religion entirely. As well, some kids may believe that their parent's marriage was ordained by a god, only for it to end. This may result in the child to then reject religion.

Bath Literature Festival
Ever wanted to go to the Bath Literature Festival? Ever even heard of the Bath Literature Festival? You probably haven't.
The Bath Literature Festival is a nice festival held in Bath, Somerset, England, and plays host to a vast array of performers, novelists, poets, journalists and politicians. However, what was special about this year's festival was the "What happens when Good Religion turns Bad?" panel.
At the panel, the Christian Francis Spufford, the rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, the muslim Rashad Ali, and Richard Dawkins the arch-atheist, all managed to agree that children not experiencing difference between other religions due to being in fath schools is pretty bad. I guess that its even possible for these members of different religions to agree on something.

Ah, contradictions in Religion is always fun.
As we all know, most religions preach about charity right? I'm sure that if you look in the bible or any other religious text, you'll probably find a line or two about taking care of the natural world. That it is only right for humans to protect the earth when it gives us its harvest and protection.
Moving onto a similar topic, lately there has been a lot of talk about the killing of elephants for ivory in Africa. Now, both the PETA, who I personally have a specific opinion on which I will not say here, and probably a lot of churches, temples and other religious parties probably would preach about how we should be helping and saving the elephants. Yet despite this, there are several religions that use ivory for their religious statues, charms, and other related items.
Take for example Thailand. The elephant is their sacred symbol, so you'd think they'd do their best to save it right? Take a close look and you'll see that Thailand uses ivory in mass for carvings and amulets. Christy from National Geographic took a trip to Thailand to investigate. After some interviews with the Elephant Monk, she found a quite ironic ivory statue of Guanyin. Did I mention that Guanyin is the goddess of mercy?

Scientist does not equate atheist
A long time ago, scientists used to be priests that study the natural world that God had created. Now, scientists are viewed as religion hating atheists that strive to go against God's will on the same level of Frankenstein. Perhaps that was an overstatement, but there definitely is a scientist=atheist stereotype.
Despite popular belief, science does not necessarily equate an anti-religious stance. There are several scientists that are quite famous that openly admit to being religious such as Frances Collins and William D. Phillips. Did I mention that Darwin, the one that came up with the theory of evolution, used to be a priest?
The myth that all scientists are white lab coat wearing, Star-trek loving atheists is quite annoying. If possible, I would hope that people will change this misunderstanding.

The Pope's Adios
After nearly eight years of Papacy, Pope Benedict XVI has said his last public address. He spent the time explaining and defending his choice to resign for a length of speech. He spoke of many things such as why he had decided to resign and how he would not abandon his duty, even if he was no longer the Pope.
Pope Benedict XVI's papacy's time has been marred by several occurrences such as an increased tension with Jews and Muslims or the so-called Vatileak, where the Pope's personal butler had stolen official documents and released them. However, Benedict states that he never felt “alone in bearing either the joys or the weight” of his role.
It's been a long ride with Pope Benedict XVI. I won't make any opinions on whether it was good or bad but I will say that I-atleast-will truly miss Pope Benedict XVI. I hope him a good time after his retirement.

Painting the soul
Now, with there only being a few days before Pope Benedict XVI's resignation, I'm sure that none of the people reading this expected another post about the Vatican. And you would be ... half-right. Why? Cause today, we're introducing Natalia Tsarkova, the Pope's official painter.
Tsarkova is a Russian-born artist that has painted numerous portraits and pieces that are hanging in several chruches, museums and Vatican Palaces. She comes from Moscow and had graduated from the Moscow School of Arts. According to Tsarkova, her faith and spirituallity are key to her ablility to paint portraits for the popes.
This enthusiastic Russian painter has developed a strong connection with the shy Pope Benedict and was very shocked when he announced his resignation.

Another post on the Vatican, because I can't seem to stop talking about it
With only 7 more days left till Pope Benedict XVI's resignation, there are still a lot of things that the Vatican must consider. Despite Pope Benedict XVI being known as a conservative, the Vatican has confirmed that the current Pope is considering changing the laws regarding the next Pope election. For currently, it is the norm for the election to be 15-20 days after the resignation of the old Pope, but there are several voices in the Church who have asked for an earlier voting date to shorten the time that the Catholic Church does not have a leader.
As well, the Vatican is still determining what title the former Pope should have and wheter or not he will be attending the inaugeration of the next Pope. Not to mention that they have to work out having the Ex-pope and the next-Pope living a few hundred miles apart. Pope Benedict XVI's announcement has caught everyone by surprise and still needs many things to be worked out.

Satanism
I don't know why but there seems to be this deep routed belief that Satanists worship Satan. Now I imagine that perhaps none of the people that actually read this are surprised. You see, in Hebrew, Satan means "adverary" or "opposer". Thus, Lucifer and the devil are also referred to as Satan.
However, Antoin La Vey, the writer of the satanic bible, believes that Lucifer is simply a representation of man's inner carnal nature, so he cannot be worshiped. "It is the individual's responsibility (and not that of a God, or the fault of any devil) to both justify and accept the consequences of their actions.” says La Vey.
For anyone that is more interested in the Satanic Church, one can read Peter. H Gilmore, the current head of the Satanic Church, 's interview here:

What is the interregnum?
There are only 9 more days before Pope Benedict XVI steps down from power. Everywhere, people are counting down the days, I can only assume that people are, and discussions on the who the next Pope will be is. However, after that and until the next Pope, who will run the Vatican state?
Truth is, during the interregnum, the period between two Popes, all department heads of the Vatican State cease to exercise their office, with the only exception being the Vicar of Rome. The ones that rule for the brief period are the Carmelengo and the Apolostic Chamber, an office from the medieval times which served as a treasury.
So now you know and won't be wondering who's the big man in charge when Pope Benedict XVI steps down. The Vatican will be in good hands until the next Pope is chosen.

Canada: Rising Religion
There are suspicions that Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet might be the next Pope. I say hogwash since there has never been a non-european Pope. Than again, there's never been an African-American president in the U.S. before and now look at our current situation.
However, ignoring that, there has been recently a rise in religion in certain places such as Quebec. On a survey, people in Quebec expressing any form of religious attachment has risen from 26% to 34% in the latest survey. In other places as well, such as the Atlantic Canada and the B.C. have risen while other places such as Alberta have fallen.
There are many reasons that could be atributed to this rise of religion and none are certain. However, what is certain is that if Ouellet becomes a candidate for Papacy than this rise may reach its peak.

Mayor at day; Priest at... day.
Meet Elie Geffray, a retired Roman Catholic Priest and mayor of a small French farming town. Although he belongs to a Church that opposes same-sex union, he yet is willing to conduct civil marriage ceremonies for LGBT couples.
The 73 year old mayor is split between the church and the state, two systems with different laws. For, on Tuesday, the French National Assemply passed a bill that legalizes gay marriage and adoptions in France. It's almost inevitable that the bill will be passed by the Senate and thus make France the latest country to allow gay marriages.

Destruction of the old Papacy
Ash Wednesday will be the Pope Benedict XVI's last liturgical celebration... before his resingment on Feb. 28. As per usual, Pope Benedict XVI will distribute ashes on the said day. However, afterwards, things will start to get busy as many things must be done before the Pope Benedict XVI's farewell to his seat.
The election for the next Pope must be done without Pope Benedict XVI's interference, something that the current pope has promised to do. As well, the destruction of any old symbols that detail Pope Benedict XVI's papacy must be destroyed in order to make way for the next Pope. But once everything is put in place, Benedict Soon - to - be - Ratzinger will find a happy retirement, sitting by the fire and reading theology books.

The Pope's resignation
If one is a close listener to Religious news, it should come as no surprise that Pope Benedict XVI has announced to resign his holy title. Actually, anyone that has any clue what is happening in the religious forefront would probably know that as well.
However, although Pope Benedict XVI is known as a hard-line conservative, he may in fact end up changing the definition of Papacy as we know it. For at this time, the role of the Pope is certainly known to be a lifetime mission like no other and know we have the 264th successor to Saint Peter resigning this title. And perhaps this announcement made Somebody mad.
Jokes about divine punishment aside, Pope Benedict XVI definitely has his reasons for resigning so now its only a matter of finding a succesor to his seat and for the Vatican to figure out how to work out the problem of having two living Popes. But that will eventually work it... hopefully...

A nice little read.
Scientology is a pretty little religion that isn't talked about much, obviously not as popular as Christianity. Jenna Miscavige Hill is a former scientologist who recently appeared on Good Morning Arizona to talk about some of her experiences with the church of Scientology.
She was born into the church as her parents were clergy members, and she was forced to join the religious cult. "My parents were members of the clergy, and they worked seven days a week ,14 hours a day," Jenna says." Children were sort of regarded as a distraction."
She also has written a book, titled "Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape". It's an interesting read so its recommended for anyone who is interested in learning of the secrets of Scientology.

A president's unheartening welcome.
Do you know what former U.S. president, George W. Bush, and current Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have in common? Both have had a shoe thrown at them!
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been criticized for spreading Shiism in Sunni lands and thus, after an affectionate welcome upon arriving in Cairo, was lectured by a Sunni cleric about Mahmoud's actions. However, after the little lecture, a bearded man threw an unsuccessful shoe at Mr. Ahmadinejad screaming "You killed our brothers!" You can find a video of this here:
Clearly there are several people unhappy with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his religious ways.

Gay Boy Scouts... nuff said.
The title says it all. Basically, while probably most of America was at a bar, gripping their trusty mug of beer with one hand, a slice of pizza in the other, glueing their eyes to watch strong tough men try to take a ball across a large field without being brutally slaughtered by other tough strong men, on sunday, Obama was in a pre-Big Game interview where he stated that gays should be allowed into the Boy Scouts. He also said something about women and the military but that's not important. Rather let's talk about Gay Boy Scouts.
For a long time, homosexuals have been banned from the boy scouts, whether for ethical or religious reasons. Only a few months ago, the Boy Scouts re-established their no-gay boy scouts, but now are discussing the possibility.
"My attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does in every institution and walk of life," Obama declares. "The Scouts are a great institution that are promoting young people and exposing them to opportunities and leadership that will serve people for the rest of their lives. And I think nobody should be barred from that."
While this does not directly focus on religion, the question comes to wheter or not this change could be a response to the recent pressure from the Roman Catholic Church regarding LGBT relationships and Homosexuals in general.

Does Religion have a place in the 21st century?
Last night, Professor Richard Dawkins participated in a Cambridge Debate, in front of hundreds of people, with the former Archbishop of Canterbury. His statement: religion is redundant and irrelevant, and has no place in the 21st century.
Dawkins argued that religion was a hindrance to scientific advancement by creating false explanations for natural phenomena. "It's a phony substitute for an explanation, which seems to answer the question until you examine it and realise that it does no such thing." he says.
In the end, religion came out as the winner, the house saying that they believed that religion did have a place in the 21st century. However, the question of wheter or not religion does still have a place remains. Will a non-religious, fully scientifically-based society help the world?

The Westboro Baptist Church's view on LGBT Relationships
Just recently, the Westboro Baptist Church, based in Kansas, has submitted an amicus brief in one of the Supreme Court's gay marriage cases. The brief warns that Gay marriage, and homosexual marriage in general, will be the ruin of this country.
The brief states that The Babylonian Talmud says that the practice of homosexual love was the reason for Noah's flood. As well, they state that they "have an everlasting and non-delegable duty to warn our fellow citizens... of the consequence of continuing down this path toward same-sex marriage".
On March 26, the Supreme Court is set to decide wheter or not the 14th Amendment allows for marriage that is not between a man and a women. Until then, the question remains on wheter or not, LGBT relationships will be allowed.

Catholic Support for Homosexuality?
Clearly, for a long time, people that participate in same gender relationships... have been looked down upon. Whether actively or privately, one has to admit that there are people that do not like Homosexuals. This is especially true for a country like America, which has a sort of set image for American ideals. Heterosexuality is one of them.
However, recently, Roman Catholic Bishops in France released a document that is supportive of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Relationships. If you can read French, you can find the original document here:
The documents says, and I quote, that "We are able to appreciate the desire for a commitment to fidelity in a love relationship: of a sincere attachment, of a deep caring, one for the other, and of a lasting bond" in same-sex relationships," except in French.
With this apparent sign of Catholic approval of LGBT relationships, the question comes down to whether this will have an effect on some of the Catholic Homophobes and whether it might even change American laws regarding Homosexuality. Who knows?
